I used to think people were kind,
Their hearts aligned with my own mind.
I thought compassion ruled the day,
That love and truth would light the way.
But life has shown a different view,
Not every heart is clear and true.
Some carry burdens, scars unseen,
Their kindness lost to where they’ve been.
And oftentimes, it’s those we love,
Who falter, clothed in callous gloves.
When envy whispers in their ear,
It fuels the wounds we learn to bear.
Yet even as these moments sting,
Hope rises on resilient wings.
For every shadow, light remains,
To heal, to soften all our pains.
The world’s not cold; it’s vast and wide,
With tender hearts and arms spread wide.
Though trials teach, they also show,
The depth of love we come to know.
